Declan noticed the slight bags under Holly J’s eyes.

“You look tired, Holly J. Do you think maybe you should just relax…

He felt so comfortable as she wrapped her arms around him. It was perfect.

"Goodnight Holly J. See you around," He said quietly. Almost sadly. He watched her walk into her house. "I’ve missed you, too."

Just a cup of coffee.

Declan noticed the slight bags under Holly J’s eyes.

“You look tired, Holly J. Do you think maybe you should just relax once in awhile?”
She looked tired, worn down, and unhappy. The coffee maker beeped. Telling them the coffee was done. He stood up and took two nice looking mugs out of the cupboard. These were some of his mom’s favorites. He poured them each a cup.

“I’m happy to be back. A little lonely. I’ve been spending sometime with my mom’s liquor cabinet and my room. It seems most people haven’t really realized I’m back. No one’s really asked to hang out or anything. Even Fiona’s been busy,” He sighed. “Cream or sugar?”

“Both please.” The way she saw it, she could take as much caffeine as she could get. “She is your sister though. Fiona has been so busy with writing that play with Eli. I’m sure that she wants to see you though.” Holly J. could understand better than anyone. Even though she had been very busy too, she hadn’t heard much from Fiona either.

“I’m sure that will change though. You are a nice guy. I’m surprised that not everyone at school wants to be your friend.” She laughed a little, reaching forward and taking a sip of her coffee. “By the way, your coffee is exceptional. You win all of the awards.”

Declan gave Holly J. a tired smile. He took a small sip of his coffee and then reached underneath him into a cupboard pulling out a small bottle of whiskey. He poured some into his coffee and set it on the island. “I don’t know. It’s only been a week. I think I’ll be okay. You’re right, it will probably change.” At least he hoped. Sitting at home was so much different than New York. In New York he was out doing something every night. “Do you want to watch a movie?” Then motioning to the whiskey he said, “You can have some if you want.”

Holly J. frowned at the bottle of whiskey. “Oh, no thanks. I appreciate the offer though.” She looked over to the doorway to the living room. As he put the bottle back under the cupboard, she said, “However, I’d love to watch a movie with you. If your movie tastes are anything like your coffee tastes, I am sure that it would be very enjoyable.” Taking another sip of her coffee, she waited for him to respond to her offer.

It was a good night. Declan thought. Amazingly peaceful. A night for once he didn’t feel so loney since he’d been back. It had been really nice, actually. The drive to Holly J’s house didn’t seem long enough. For some reason he just didn’t want her to leave yet. He walked her up to her door. “Thanks for hanging out with me, Holly J.” He said honestly. He had really been appreciative.

Just a cup of coffee.

Holly J. walked around the island and sat across from Declan. The quiet sounds of the coffee maker buzzed in the background as she said, “I’ve been alright. I have been so tired lately but I do a lot of things on top of school. Between student council and preparing for my internship, I have had no time to rest. How about you? How are you enjoying being back?”

She couldn’t pinpoint the reason for the nostalgic feeling that she was feeling. Just being around Declan made her feel more calm. Since the break up with Sav, she had just been existing. She silently floated through school, working, student council. She never really had any time to feel emotion. Holly J. just received her expectations and filled them. Even though she was unsure how she felt about Declan romantically, she knew that she missed him so much.

Holly J. nodded, noticing his hesitation. Trying to avoid confronting it, she looked down at her shoes for a moment. “Well, that’s very true. You have to live in the moment, right? You never know what could happen if you don’t give it a try.” Thinking over going with Declan to his place, she was undecided. What if this gave him the wrong idea? Declan was a gentleman but she wasn’t sure how he was feeling. She sighed, giving him a small smile. Holly J. was a strong force though. She knew how to say no. Deciding on this, she said, “We could go to your place if you’d like. I do need to experience your taste in coffee.”

Declan’s kitchen was of course clean. It was almost beautiful in a sense. But, the one thing that’d always bothered Declan was how empty it felt. Not many home cooked meals took place in the Coyne household. He set the coffee maker up.

“Best you’ll find around here,” He said winking at Holly J. with a smirk. This is when he noticed how much he’d really missed her. She was absolutely adorable. Declan sat down at the island and motioned for Holly J. to come sit across from him. “Tell me how you’ve been?”

“What’re you in the mood for, Ms. Sinclair?”

Declan noticed she looked about as nervous as he felt for a moment there. But, then recovered with a bright smile. He’d missed her smile immensely. It was so good to see her.

Holly J. smiled back at him, watching the lines on the road disappear behind as he drove. “I am not picky. Anything with caffeine in it is alright.” She watched the road for a few more seconds until she said, “So, why did you choose to come back to Degrassi? To be honest, I’m still surprised to see you. New York is far more interesting than Toronto.”

“Well, I have a pretty awesome coffee maker at my house and a really nice collection of DVDs,” He knew he was going out on a limb asking her back to his place. But, he didn’t feel like going out. He thought maybe it’d be nice to just catch up with Holly J in private. No intentions intended. He thought about her question carefully. “I don’t know,” He said honestly. “New York has everything anyone could ask for. But, it doesn’t have my friends or my family…” He almost added ‘It doesn’t have you.’ He cleared his throat. He’d been pretty much driving in circles because they hadn’t decided on a destination. “I can go back to New York at anytime. But, who’s to say if I waited to come back to Toronto that everyone and everything would still be waiting here for me?”

Holly J. nodded, noticing his hesitation. Trying to avoid confronting it, she looked down at her shoes for a moment. “Well, that’s very true. You have to live in the moment, right? Holly J. walked into her house and tossed her bag on the floor. Despite being exhausted from being at school all day, she still wanted to meet with Declan. She changed into a different, more comfortable pair of shoes and walked outside to see him in his diplomat car. Seeing him in the flesh was different to her than the times that she had spoken to him over the internet. It didn’t seem real to her that Declan was sitting about twenty feet away and that he wanted to see her after everything that happened.

“Declan!” She laughed nervously, walking up to his car. She opened the door and slid into the passenger’s side. “It’s good to see you. You look great, like always.” She smiled, buckling herself in. “Where are we going for coffee today, Mr. Coyne?”

“What’re you in the mood for, Ms. Sinclair?”
